Re: Berkshire Credit Risk - Bloomberg

That's an interesting read. The analysis is perplexing to me. If anything, it would seem more logical for insurance against default or downgrade on debt to be higher for a company like Allstate rather than Berkshire. Of course, pessimism has been the flavor of the recent turmoil. When a company like...

KTII

Rather than the traditional explanation of a stock, I figured I'd give some of our newer members a chance to research a stock and post about what may be good or not about an investment. There's a stock that trades on NASDAQ by the name of K-Tron International, Inc. (Ticker: KTII). Below I'll post so...

Re: Can't Make the 10/20 Meeting

We covered accounting basics (i.e. what are financial statements, what's in them, and why they are useful) and briefly touched on the club portfolio, but didn't make any executive decisions.

Re: to make money together

We can focus our energy only on a special area which is easy to understand. When you say a 'special area', could you expand on that a bit? Almost any good portfolio needs some sort of diversification to protect against risk so only focusing on an industry or two is not the best idea. Are you talkin...

Re: GameStop (GME)

It ended up tanking down to about 46 on the 22nd (day of earnings release), even though they exceeded expectations on EPS/Net Income/etc. It's back up to high 49s now, but the drop was somewhat counter-intuitive, considering the out-performance. I think a lot of concern comes from few good releases ...

Re: Stock Market Basics Class?

There is a Stock Market focused class (Finance 724), but other than that your options are pretty limited.

Re: GameStop (GME)

Also I might add that something that separates major chains such as Best Buy from video game retail store such as GameStop is the resale/trade-in value of the games. As far as I know, you can't sell games back to Best Buy in return for cash or even store credit. With GameStop you can, which can poss...

GameStop (GME)

I've been tracking GameStop (GME) for some time now, and feel I have a bit to say. For those of you who don't know what they do, they are a video game and accessory retail store -- they sell new (and recently used) video games for all the major consoles (Wii, 360, PS3, etc.) as well as the consoles ...

Re: Microsoft versus GOOG

We talked about this today a bit in my Economics class. I'm not sure on the validity of this, but hasn't Yahoo been struggling the past few quarters/years? Microsoft offered to buy them out at what, $31 a share? They dipped down around $17 a share sometime last year, but going as high as $30. The tr...
